Something for All Students
My name is Tyson Huffman and I am faculty at Cerro Coso Community College. I have worked in education for over 15 years and the work continues to stimulate me after all these years. Like you, I attended a community college (Modesto Junior College). I was a student-athlete who majored in History and French. I was one of the lucky ones who managed to play my sport through college. I received a scholarship to play football at a small private college in Kansas (Benedictine College) where I had the opportunity to study abroad. During the last semester of my first undergraduate program, I lived in France as an international exchange student and that experience changed my life. Following my stint in France, I realized I wasn't finished with the French language and culture and enrolled at CSU Sacramento to complete a second bachelor's degree in French. I then went on to complete a master's and doctoral degree in education. Without my experiences as a community college student and the professors I met along the way, I am unsure whether my educational journey would have been as long as it was. I’m forever indebted to the folks who inspired me to continue my journey and take education and football as far as I could.
My interests outside of my professional life are vast but in the current stage of my life I am heavily focused on my beautiful family, my wife and two children, Sawyer (9) and Sterling (6). When I’m not spending time with my family or close friends, I enjoy spending time doing physical things: lifting weights, hiking, running, etc. Once the kids are asleep and I get some time to myself, I enjoy escapism in the form of a good movie or TV series.
